When our Nordic Cruise 2026 brought us to Invergordon, I knew I wanted to experience the Scottish Highlands through my camera rather than from a tour bus window. That’s why we chose the photography expedition led by local photographer Tim Winterburn—a journey designed for photographers who want to discover Scotland beyond the obvious viewpoints.

What made this experience special was its unpredictability. Instead of following a fixed route, the day was shaped by the weather, the light, and the conditions in the Highlands. Together, we explored a collection of hidden locations across the region, from dramatic coastlines and peaceful lochs to castles, and remote Highland landscapes.

As a Fujifilm photographer, I particularly enjoyed slowing down and focusing on composition, light, and atmosphere rather than chasing countless images. The constantly changing weather created exactly the kind of mood that makes Scotland so photogenic—sunlight breaking through dark clouds, mist rolling across distant hills, and endless shades of green stretching to the horizon.

The Highlands are not just beautiful; they feel alive. Around every corner, there was another scene that invited me to stop, observe, and capture the moment. Some of my favorite images were not the grand landscapes, but the smaller details: an old stone wall, reflections on still water, or the texture of the rugged countryside.

This photography expedition reminded me why I love photography in the first place. It is not about collecting perfect images. It is about being present, exploring with curiosity, and preserving the feeling of a place long after the journey is over.

Scotland delivered exactly that.
